The Biodegradation of Brewery Wastes in a Two-Stage Immobilized System
نویسندگان
چکیده
The investigations were made in a loop bioreactor, where biomass was immobilized in the ceramic carrier. The influence of the internal circulation rate on the biodegradation efficiency of brewery wastes by immobilized biomass and on production of surplus sludge was examined. The rates of the internal circulation were 12, 38, 50 dm·h. The experiments were performed at constant loading rate of the carrier of 17.9 g·dm·hand hydraulic retention time of 3 h. Increasing in the internal circulation rate from 12 to 50 dm·h caused enhancement of the removal rate from 0.40 to 0.48 gCOD·dm·h and limitation of surplus sludge productivity from 0.67 to 0.27 g ·g 1 COD removed. The biodegradation rate of brewery wastes in a two-stage immobilized system was determined. The hydraulic retention time in this two-stage immobilized system was 6 h, which was enough to get a COD below 150 mg·dm in the effluent. Biogas production from co-digestion of local brewery waste (BW) and cow dung (CD) was study for value added to this solid waste. The objective of this research was to fine the optimum condition for maximum biogas production and also examined the effectiveness of the biogas residue (liquor from anaerobic digestion process) as a nitrogen source for the production of okro. The experiments were per...
متن کاملBiodegradation and bioconversion of cellulose wastes using bacterial and fungal cells immobilized in radiopolymerized hydrogels
Annually, great amounts of cellulose wastes, which could be measured in many billions of tons, are produced worldwide as residues from agricultural activities and industrial food processing. Consequently, the use of microorganisms in order to remove, reduce or ameliorate these potential polluting materials is a real environmental challenge, which could be solved by a focused research concerning...

In this research, the possibility of using dried leaves of pine (Pi), tire-rubber wastes (TR) and rice hull (Ri) as tomato growth media in soilless culture system was investigated. Tomato seeds were grown in sterilized sand and after one month, the seedlings were transplanted to various growth media including dried leaves of pine- perlite (Pi:Pe), dried leaves of pine- rubber wastes (Pi:TR), co...
متن کاملEnhancement of biogas potential of primary sludge by co-digestion with cow manure and brewery sludge
Anaerobic digestion (AD) has long been used to treat different types of organic wastes especially in the developed world. However, organic wastes are still more often considered as a waste instead of a resource in the developing world, which contributes to environmental pollution arising from their disposal. This study has been conducted at Bugolobi Sewage Treatment Plant (BSTP), where two orga...
